Trump attacks reporter for 2005 tax return leak

The late shows had their round at MSNBC host Rachel Maddow on Wednesday, one day after the cable news presenter revealed information from President Donald Trump's 2005 tax returns on her own evening show.

Each time Colbert neared telling the joke - starting with "Why did the chicken ..." - he went on a minimally-related tangent, clearly mocking Maddow's almost 20 minute-long introduction on her Tuesday show after teasing she had obtained portions of the president's 2005 tax return on Twitter. Lots of speculation has swirled around Trump's unwillingness to publish his tax affairs, with the implication being that this billionaire is hiding something unfavourable, if not crooked (he says he won't release his returns because the tax authorities are auditing him).

"The joke in question: Why did the chicken - but first a word on chickens", Colbert said.

The asylum-seekers were then able to hold up flashlights to show the aircraft that they were migrants. Despite the crisis, Yemen continues to be an important transit point for African migrants.

"Why did the chicken cross the road?"

He paused for a few seconds before saying, "The answer right after the break". She tweeted: 'BREAKING: We've got Trump tax returns.

Presidents and major candidates for the White House have routinely released their income tax returns.

Here in Windsor-Essex , windy conditions are also forecast, making for local blowing snow and below-freezing temperatures. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Norfolk, Haldimand, Brant, Hamilton and the Niagara region.

Why President Trump will not release his tax returns remains a mystery. They turned up in the mailbox of David Cay Johnston, a tax expert and author of a book on Trump, without explanation. The returns do not indicate whether he paid taxes in other years or how much he might have paid.

"Not at all!" Maddow replied, adding that the public now knows Trump pays taxes. Her main concern about the president, she says is "his contact with foreign countries like Russian Federation". The story is that he paid around $50 million dollars in federal and state income taxes in a single year. While she didn't reveal the income figures immediately, she did tell viewers at the top of the show the exact documents that were obtained and how they came to light, she said.

"I think people are really concerned to see what's in those tax returns", Maddow told Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon.

"I want to be trustworthy to my audience", the anchor said.
