Dusseldorf station attack: 'Several injured' after man goes on axe rampage

According to initial reports a man wielding an axe entered the station and injured two people.

Video footage at the scene showed paramedics treating several people on the ground of the concourse, on which there appeared to be trails of blood.

A police spokesman said the suspected assailant had been taken into custody.

Anti-terror police swooped on the station in western Germany today after reports of a "crazed man" on the loose.

"I helped her wound and called her father", she said.

Earlier, a spokesman for federal police, who are usually in charge of policing train stations, had said two people were arrested and further attackers might be on the run. "Stay away from #Dusseldorf train station insane man with #axe on the lose".

The woman allegedly turned to the younger son, while the older son managed to struggle free before he was attacked by a dog. He told reporters that the case was "just bad ", before going on to say that "it will rock the community of Australia".

Bruno Macedo tweeted: 'Man with axe chased by police in Dusseldorf.

Hundreds of passengers were evacuated from the station during the large scale police operation.
