Jaitley & Jethmalani slug it out in court

However, 11 questions were disallowed by the court.

Appearing for Kejriwal, Jethmalani fired a salvo of 52 questions at Jaitley in the almost daylong proceedings in a jam-packed court, but 11 of these were "disallowed" by joint registrar Amit Kumar for either being a "matter of record and irrelevant to the case", or for being "questions of law and not fact" that could be argued later. Jaitley said he never thought of suing Kishwar, but added that Kejriwal, in endorsing her allegation, "has committed a serious act of libel through his malicious falsehood, falsely alleging that my wife and daughter are linked to fake companies".

Jaitley noted that he had relinquished the post of DDCA president in 2013, long before the letter was written.

Germany rejects Turkish charges, hits out over press freedom
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim addressed Turkish voters at a campaign rally in the Rhineland town of Oberhausen last week. They reportedly received a telephone call from an unknown person who said there was a bomb in the town hall.

In connection with the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) defamation case filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley appeared in a Delhi court on March 6 where he was cross-examined by senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani who is the counsel for CM Kejriwal and other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. Jaitley also denied accusations that he tried to influence Chetan Sanghi, Delhi government's vigilance chief who handled DDCA case, and persuaded him to go back on his report.

The Finance Minister, who headed the DDCA for 13 years, has already tendered evidence in support of his civil defamation suit against Kejriwal and five AAP leaders - Raghav Chadha, Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh and Deepak Bajpai.

He was responding to a question by Jethmalani on why he did not sue academician Madhu Kishwar, who initially made the allegations on Twitter, but filed a suit against Kejriwal and others for merely reiterating them. "I strongly deny the contents of this letter in so far as it pertains to me". Jethmalani also demanded from the senior minister if he made any serious effort to reverse the alleged damage before coming to the court, since as per Jaitley's statement, the damage continued for five consecutive days. Jethmalani, who was expelled from the BJP, wondered if Jaitley's "personal feelings of greatness" were behind the defamation suit.

German Chancellor Merkel heads to Egypt, Tunisia to reduce migrant flows
The German government will also talk about both Egypt and Tunisia taking back asylum-seekers who have been rejected in Germany. The trip is part of a larger diplomatic push by Merkel, who previous year visited Mali, Niger and Ethiopia.

The court has directed Mr Jaitley to appear again for cross-examination on Tuesday.

The cross-examination will now resume on March 15 and is also likely to take place on March 17. However, as on Monday, when 11 of the questions were disallowed by the court, even on Tuesday he made a decision to stay clear of a few of them. "When I ceased to be the President, I wanted to sever all my links with the DDCA and the BCCI", Jaitley said after going through the letter which was shown to him.

Veteran lawyer, Ram Jethmalani, grilled Finance Minister Arun Jaitley the second day in a row in Rs 10 crore defamation case the latter has filed in the High Court.
