Sensex opens strong, Nifty reclaims 8800

Mumbai: Sensex continued its rally on Friday with 30-share index surging over 111 points in early morning trade.

On Thursday, the Sensex had closed 40 points higher at 28,330 and the Nifty had closed nine points up at 8,778.

Indian shares opened higher on Friday, mirroring firm global cues, after U.S. President Donald Trump promised to unveil a comprehensive tax plan to lower the tax burden on American business and said he wanted to "develop a constructive relationship" with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to broadcaster France Info, the suspected attacker carrying a rucksack attempted a knife attack on the soldier. He said the situation around the landmark museum is "totally under control" but the overall threat to France remains.

The market breadth is strong with 1180 strong advances and 660 declines, whereas 92 stocks remain unchanged on BSE. The BSE's benchmark index climbed up 0.39 per cent to 28,441 in its opening session. After the policy announcement, the BSE Sensex crashed over 100 points and was trading 120 points below the red line while the NSE Nifty was down 31 points. Intra-day, it traded between 8,809.30 and 8,741.05.

Other Asian markets rose broadly and European stocks were trading higher in early trade, as U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to announce "phenomenal" tax reform plan in next few weeks and encouraging data out of China and the United Kingdom spurred optimism about the global economy.

Meanwhile, Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 449.52 crore yesterday, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges.

However, Cipla rose by 1.62 per cent, Wipro 1.33 per cent, Tata Motors 1.30 per cent, M&M 1.20 per cent, GAIL 1.09 per cent and TCS 1.08 per cent.

Among the major losers were, Axis Bank 1.85 per cent, ITC 1.21 per cent, Infosys 0.88 per cent and Dr Reddy 0.71 per cent.
