Sam Shields Released by Packers: Latest Comments and Reaction

A concussion suffered in Week One of the 2016 season kept Shields on the sideline for the rest of the year.

Shields called out by name not only head coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson, the latter of whom would have made the cut, but also Russ Ball, the team's vice president of football administration/player finance who negotiates nearly every contract.

Shields was placed on injured reserve last October after suffering a concussion.

CBS Radio, Entercom Merge To Remain Competitive
Financial terms of the deal, expected to close in the second half of this year, were not released. Changes could soon be coming to the ever-tempestuous Boston sports talk radio scene.

"I'm thinking it's not over", Shields said. "I've still got more (football) in me", Shields said, via the Wisconsin State Journal.

Over the past two years, Shields played in just two of a possible 23 games, including the playoffs.

We'll start with the very latest, which is that cornerback Sam Shields seemed to indicate early this morning that he has been released by the Packers. Some of his Instagram post hashtags would suggest he's going to retire - #ICantPlayWithAnybodyElse, #ImDone - though a source reportedly told ESPN that #BouncebackShields intends to keep playing.

Frontier Adding Routes This Spring
After more than a decade of downsizing, Delta Air Lines is growing at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Frontier officials will be at Cleveland Hopkins this afternoon to celebrate the new service announcement.

If Shields decides to try continuing his career, he would have to clear concussion protocol during a physical with whatever team takes a gamble on the corner. "That's the primary focus".

Sam Shields says he has been released from the team.

Shields' released came one day after the Packers cut running back James Starks with the non-football injury designation. The final year of prorated signing bonus - $3.125 million - will count against the cap as dead money.
