Suspect taken into custody for Karina Vetrano's murder

A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody for the death of Karina Vetrano, a New York City jogger whose body was recovered in a park last August.

CNN has reached out to Lewis' attorneys, Julia Burke and Robert Moeller.

Karina Vetrano's beaten body was found August 2 in a marshy park in Queens. Her father found her badly beaten body in a secluded marsh.

Boyce says it appeared the encounter that led to 30-year-old Vetrano's death was a chance one.

"This case was very similar to a needle in a haystack because this individual had no prior arrests", said Chief of Detectives Bob Boyce on Monday, referring to accused killer Chanel Lewis, 20.

West Palm Beach police have said they are working with organizers and are not anticipating any problems. The numbers for Obama's turned out to be almost the same as President Trump's current trip.

His DNA was also found under Karina's fingernails from where she scratched him, prosecutors said.

In the end, it was a direct DNA match that led to an arrest.

She was raped and strangled after putting up a furious fight, authorities said.

The retired New York City firefighter later returned, without giving an explanation to reporters.

Cops caught a suspect Saturday in the murder of Karina Vetrano, the lovely jogger whose brutal strangulation last summer - in the high weeds of Spring Creek Park in Queens - had transfixed the city. Vetrano's parents spoke out Thursday, trying to renew momentum in the case on the six-month anniversary of the murder.

Investigators believe Lewis grabbed Vetrano while she jogged at the park, the television station reports.

Family members and neighbors say it was common to see 30-year-old Karina Vetrano jogging along the path near Howard Beach.

"Karina helped us identify this person", Boyce said.

A family friend told the New York Post that Phil Vetrano was "traumatized".
