Government science goes rogue on Twitter

[Image by Win McNamee/Getty Images]"Today, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is higher than at any time in the last 650,000 years".

On Tuesday the official account of Badlands National Park in South Dakota started tweeting about global warming, but those posts were later deleted. The ARS is the scientific research arm of the USDA, which delves into the crucial agricultural problems, including how to address the effects of long-term climate change.

Cyber security experts warn those sympathetic to the employees cause could lower their guard and click on links from accounts acting as a rogue agency, but in reality be someone trying to spread computer viruses. But if legit, they show the displeasure many government employees across a wide range of agencies about Trump's censorship.

But first, they tweeted a message that was meant specifically for President Donald Trump, warning that if he and his administration continue to ignore the risks of climate change, the devastation it wreaks on the planet will stand as his legacy.

The coming months and years will see the eruption of social opposition to the destruction of public education. Barnes and her husband have already called their representatives in Congress, urging a no vote on DeVos.

Twitter dealt with the Badlands National Park account hacking by a disgruntled employee.

An individual contacted at the alternative Twitter feed for Mount Rainier National Park said: "It's not about the people running the accounts".

Employees at NASA have created the Twitter account @RogueNASA with the disclaimer describing it as "The unofficial 'Resistance" team of NASA. @AltNatParkSer, he largest "unofficial "resistance" account for the National Parks Service has over one million followers as of Thursday morning, more than two and a half times that of the actual agency account.

The park service could not be reached for comment.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) says it is now looking into the footage and the conduct of the two officers. The force said independent advisory groups were a way for communities to work with the police to help improve its service.

The account has amassed 345,000 followers and includes tweets like: "Science deniers are risky".

It has been just under a week since Trump stepped into the role of U.S. president, but in that time, the scientific community has been left in turmoil following apparent gag orders placed on any data showing links between humans and climate change.

When asked by the Associated Press, Tom Crosson, the chief spokesman for the Park Service, said there are no restrictions at the agency on the use of Twitter or other social media accounts. "We must be Trump's worst nightmare".

The accounts come in the wake of a Trump administration gag order on federal workers reported by CNN that includes the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Park Service (which is part of the Interior Department), where workers were instructed to remove web pages on climate change, cease dissemination of climate facts and decline calls from reporters.

But, Trump can weaken the law by regulating budget allocations, which he tried to do with his first executive order yesterday. That's because healthier people might choose not to buy health plans, leaving only sick people covered.

Unknown employees at the National Weather Services created the Twitter account @AlternativeNWS and posted "Hi there @POTUS, hope you're enjoying your pointless deletion of science".
