First Look At Boeing's Sleek Blue Astronaut Suit For Travel To ISS

"The suit capitalizes on historical designs, meets NASA requirements for safety and functionality, and introduces cutting-edge innovations", the release stated on Wednesday. The spacesuit reveal comes as Boeing moves toward flight tests of its Starliner spacecraft and launch systems that will take astronauts to the International Space Station.

The Boeing Blue spacesuit is 40% lighter than previous suits and features touchscreen-friendly gloves.

Despite being hailed as a space suit, Boeing blue shares more DNA with the flight suits worn by high-altitude pilots than the iconic white extravehicular mobility units used for spacewalks, Wired reports. The hood has a wide visor to provide greater field of vision.

The architecture of the new spacesuit combines the first-hand experience of veteran astronaut Chris Ferguson with David Clark Co.'s decades of suit design, development, test and evaluation insight as the makers of more than a dozen air and space suits, including those for Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle missions.

National Basketball Association to review Zaza Pachulia-Russell Westbrook incident, report says

A look at the spacesuit astronauts will wear aboard Boeing's Starliner capsule. Another feature which is bound to make crewmembers really happy is that the Starliner suits allow water vapor to pass through, away from the astronauts, while remaining airtight.

The odds of astronauts needing their suits to pressurize is small explains Richard Watson, subsystem manager for spacesuits for NASA's Commercial Crew Program. The company hopes to begin bringing Earthlings to the International Space Station in late 2018. The suits are lighter and more flexible because of the use of newer materials and different joint patterns.

'If everything goes perfectly on a mission, then you don't need a spacesuit. This time, if everything works well and accordingly, Starliner and Dragon will make sure that NASA will not rely on a foreign spacecraft moving forward. Since the space shuttle was retired in 2011, the United States has not had the ability to fly human passengers, relying instead on Russian Federation. "The next time we pull all this together, it might be when astronauts are climbing into the actual spacecraft".
