Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle recently signed a bill into law to regulate mixed martial arts in the state.

“We’re very excited that Wisconsin became the 43rd state to approve the sport of mixed martial arts,” UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner told UFC.com. “We look forward to doing a show there in the next year, either in Milwaukee, Madison, or Green Bay. The process was very smooth and bodes well for the other five states that do not have the sport of MMA approved.”

The remaining five states with athletic commissions that have yet to pass a bill for regulation of MMA competition are New York, Connecticut, West Virginia, Vermont, and Alabama. With the increasing popularity and appeal of the sport, it seems like only a matter of time before those states will regulate it.

Two states, Alabama and Wyoming, do not have athletic commissions.
