BJ Penn Putting Welterweight Title Aspirations On Hold

BJ Penn, the current UFC lightweight champ, made it clear following his second loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94 that he wanted another rematch, so he could reclaim the welterweight title he once held. However, Penn has put his welterweight title aspirations on hold to focus solely on his upcoming fight with Frankie Edgar at UFC 112.

“As far as my aspirations to go back up to welterweight and fight GSP again, I am going to have to wait,” Penn told Fighters Only. “I do want to be the welterweight champion again, I want to fight GSP again, and I am always interested in moving up, I have done that in the past, looked beyond what I had to do, and I won’t be looking past Frankie Edgar.”

This is certainly a smart decision by Penn, as Edgar is without a doubt one of his toughest challenges to date.

The two fighters will meet on April 10 at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.
