Massachusetts Governor Signs MMA Bill

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick on Monday signed into law a bill to regulate mixed martial arts in the state. The bill has changed the Massachusetts State Boxing Commission into the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission, which will now oversee MMA events.

UFC President Dana White, excited about the news, posted the following on his Twitter:

“Gov. Deval Patrick just signed the MMA bill in Mass!!! I am so excited words can not describe! Here we come Boston!! NY is next!!

Think about where we started. One state to go then Ontario!!!”

The UFC’s debut event in Massachusetts will likely be held in 2010 at either Fenway Park or the TD BankNorth Garden in Boston.
